Welcome to our Worship Service!

[Judges 21:25 NASB95] [25] In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.

ORDER OF SERVICE

WELCOME & CALL TO WORSHIP

WORSHIP IN SONG

THE HEIDELBERG CATECHISM: Lord’s Day 6, Q&A 16-19

Q16. Why must the mediator be a true and righteous human?

A16. God’s justice demands that human nature, which has sinned, must pay for sin; but a sinful human could never pay for others.

Q17. Why must the mediator also be true God?

A17. So that the mediator, by the power of his divinity, might bear the weight of God’s wrath in his humanity and earn for us and restore to us righteousness and life.

Q18. Then who is this mediator— true God and at the same time a true and righteous human?

A18. Our Lord Jesus Christ, who was given to us to completely deliver us and make us right with God.

Q19. How do you come to know this?

A19. The holy gospel tells me. God began to reveal the gospel already in Paradise; later God proclaimed it by the holy patriarchs and prophets and foreshadowed it by the sacrifices and other ceremonies of the law; and finally God fulfilled it through his own beloved Son.

CONFESSION OF SINS

FIRST READING: [Hebrews 11:23-29 CSB]

[23] By faith Moses, after he was born, was hidden by his parents for three months, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they didn't fear the king's edict. [24] By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter [25] and chose to suffer with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasure of sin. [26] For he considered reproach for the sake of Christ to be greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, since he was looking ahead to the reward. [27] By faith he left Egypt behind, not being afraid of the king's anger, for Moses persevered as one who sees him who is invisible. [28] By faith he instituted the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn might not touch the Israelites. [29] By faith they crossed the Red Sea as though they were on dry land. When the Egyptians attempted to do this, they were drowned.

SERMON TEXT: [Ephesians 1:18-23 CSB]

[18] I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, what is the wealth of his glorious inheritance in the saints, [19] and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the mighty working of his strength.

GOD’S POWER IN CHRIST

[20] He exercised this power in Christ by raising him from the dead and seating him at his right hand in the heavens -- [21] far above every ruler and authority, power and dominion, and every title given, not only in this age but also in the one to come. [22] And he subjected everything under his feet and appointed him as head over everything for the church, [23] which is his body, the fullness of the one who fills all things in every way.
