Q92: What is God’s law?

A92: God spoke all these words:

THE FIRST COMMANDMENT

“I am the LORD your God,

who brought you out of the land of Egypt,

out of the house of slavery;

you shall have no other gods before me.”

THE SECOND COMMANDMENT

“You shall not make for yourself an idol,

whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above,

or that is on the earth beneath,

or that is in the water under the earth.

You shall not bow down to them or worship them;

for I the LORD your God am a jealous God,

punishing children for the iniquity of parents,

to the third and the fourth generation

of those who reject me,

but showing love to the thousandth generation of those

who love me and keep my commandments.”

[11] I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. [12] He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. Sermon Scripture Text: [Isaiah 49:4-16 ESV]

[4] But I said, "I have labored in vain; I have spent my strength for nothing and vanity; yet surely my right is with the LORD, and my recompense with my God." [5] And now the LORD says, he who formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob back to him; and that Israel might be gathered to him-- for I am honored in the eyes of the LORD, and my God has become my strength-- [6] he says: "It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel; I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth." [7] Thus says the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel and his Holy One, to one deeply despised, abhorred by the nation, the servant of rulers: "Kings shall see and arise; princes, and they shall prostrate themselves; because of the LORD, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you."
